[ SUMMARY ] Sanma-san’s Karakuri TV 20130519

It’s already 1 am, but I just watched Karakuri and loved it so much
that I definitely need to sum up the highlights. Have fun~

- Once again, Seungri is guesting at Karakuri to impress his mentor
Sanma-san with his “Japan is so nice eh~” report. But first of all,
let’s hear about his aspiration.

- SR: Actually, my father was pro-golfer…
Sanma-san: SAY WHAT!
SR: My father was a real pro-golfer, so ever since I was born,
ever since I was small, my father told me that he would like
me to become a pro-golfer, too.
Sanma-san: Really…
SR: So, ever since I was small, I actually did golf. But when
I got older, I got angry about my father telling me this and that.
Sanma-san: I see.
SR: I wanted to do the things that I like…
Now I am sitting here.

- Anyway, without further ado Seungri is presenting his next report
from Sanma-san’s home city Ikomashi in Nara prefecture.

- SR: Yaaa, today the weather is so nice again righ~t.
Apparently, the honey produced in Nara is very famous.

* They honeybeens take the seeds / whatever from “Renge” flowers which gives a special taste, they say.

- SR: On the first glance you can already tell there is a huge variety of
honey available here.
Clerk: Yes, that’s right. Depending on the kind of flower the honey was
made of, the color and scent differs.
SR: Ehh, I see, I see.
I LOVE SWEET THINGS!

- So it happens that Seungri is being taken away by that kind old man somewhere somehow…

SR: Erm, what is this place?
Mr. Honey (I am gonna give them nicknames now): This is the home of the honey bees.

- SR: AMAZING! Just look at this! UWAHHH~~

- So they are feeding Seungri “Royal Jelly”, a “honey”, which
takes 64000 bees to produce even 15g.

- Seungri returns to Nara city and visits a restaurant…

own comedy shows in TV, I think.)
Mrs. Okonomiyaki: Matsutake? I wonder where…
(* I assume it’s read Matsutake, must be a smaller agency for comedians.)
SR: Erm… I am from avex…
(* Actually, it’s supposed to be YGEX, but probably Seungri assumed
she doesn’t know what YGEX is, while avex is well known in Japan.)

So apparently, this lady mistook him for an uprising comedian. >D


- Coming up is a place Seungri wanted to visit NO MATTER WHAT while being in Nara…

SR: It’s here!!!
Yay!! It’s here, it’s here!

… Sanma-san’s elementary school. ORZ.


- So, in order to interview some of Sanma-san’s old classmates,
Seungri is asking around in the city to find them, receiving hints
from people like Sanma-san’s former trainer and such. He ends up
at that place run by another old lady who recruits Sanma-san’s elemtary
school classmates for a meeting. After 20 minutes of wait…

SR: Hello!
Mr. Check: … What… is this..?
Mrs. Recruit: He got surprised.
SR: Did you go to the same class as Sanma-san?
Mr. Check: I wasn’t in the same class, but in the same year as Sanma-san.
SR: Ah, I see!

- SR: Sanma-san is my mentor.
Mr. Check: Oh really?
SR: Yes. I love Japanese variety… So I am learning about Japan
as his apprentice.
Mr. Check: Oh really…
SR: Yes!
Mr. Check: Excuse me… Who are you?
SR: … … … … … … Shock!

- So in the end, they manage to gather even 5 men who went to school with
Sanma-san and spill all his secrets. Hehe.

- Introducing the brand new drama:
 ”Nara Prefecture Jin ~ A time slip to Sanma’s school era.”
Skipping the character intro here because it’s not relevant but
the JIN reference was hilarious. >D

- Mr. Check (or one of this friends): Can you tell which one is Sanma-san?
SR: Sanma-san… I have no idea!
Mr. Check (or one of this friends): He has changed a lot.
Mr. Check (or one of this friends): He won’t figure it out, he won’t.
SR: (That one is) Sanma-san?! He was so tall!
(In the studio: His teeth are standing out, right?)

- SR: How was Sanma-san in the past?
Mr. Check: We went to a trip to Ise, right?
One of Mr. Check’s friends: The elementary school trip, right?

Sanma-san: This is more than 40 years ago!
Guest: You formed a manzai combo when you were in elemantary school, right?
Sanma-san: With Ootsuka, yes.
We wrote gags. Really lame ones.

- He is quoting his old gags here but I am too lazy to translate them now,
it’s 2 am by now. Also skipping the question corner because actually,
Sanma-san’s former classmates are gonna talk about it in a bit again.

- One of Mr. Check’s friends: Actually, Sanma-san was aiming to become a pro-wrestler.
SR: A pro-wrestler?! Not a comedian…?
One of Mr. Check’s friends: He was talking about nothing but pro-wrestling.
SR: Seriously?
One of Mr. Check’s friends: Yes.
Mr. Check: We went to a trip to Ise, right?
One of Mr. Check’s friends: The elementary school trip, right?
Mr. Check: Even though I was from another class, he called me out.
So then, he told me to spread out both my legs and my arms.
Then suddenly, he lifted me up …
And let me fall down with a loud “bam”!
SR: SUDDENLY??
Mr. Check: He was laughing like a maniac afterwards.

- They keep telling stories like this and Seungri keeps asking stuff every
now and then, but actually nothing of this is actually interesting
enough to translate, lol. Skipping this and heading straight to the final
scoring.

- SR: So at last, only the judgement remains…
Sanma-san: How much was the highest score you received?
SR: Well, 45 points … was the highest…
Sanma-san: So 45 points… Ahh.
SR: But well, I already went to the place where Sanma-san grew up
and could feel his DNA, so I am happy already…
Studio audience: Roar of laughter
SR: I wonder how many points I get…? This time…
Sanma-san: I really want them to be high this time, but…
SR: Yes, that’s right.
Sanma-san: 50 points!!!

And that’s it! Sorry I cut so much text but actually it’s really just
Seungri asking questions and the classmates talking forever. And Seungri
saying how talented Sanma-san was every since he was young.

[ SUMMARY ] Sanma-san’s Karakuri TV

I am sorry I cannot provide a full sub-ready translation, but I hope you enjoy reading about the highlights at least = ]



- To show how tremendously popular and successful BIGBANG and Seungri are, a little recap of the Alive Tour facts. Apart from holding concerts in over 12 countries, they had an audience of 455 000 people in Japan during their arena tour in summer and the 3-dome-tour in winter.


- Apparently, Seungri is the “little brother” figure in the hearts of the fans. (… Uhmmm, well, he is, but still people call him cool and handsome >D)


- Furthermore, he loves Japanese variety and is a huge fan of Sanma-san. Eventually, he shouted in Kyocer Dome (Osaka) that he loves him and became his self-claimed apprentince then.


- Eager to impress Sanma-san, Seungri also appeared in the 2-hour autumn special with a self-produced VTR, however, Sanma-san only gave him 40 of 100 points for his hard work. Thus, Seungri is back to finally get approval of Sanma-san.

- Upon arrival in the studio, Seungri makes an hilarious appearance like usual >D


- Nice joke on “grasp” here. While holding Sanma-san’s hand, Seungri goes “How is this grasp? How is it?” and earn himself a beating >D However, the play on words is nice though. “Grasp” is some variety technique to get the attention of the viewer, so, whatever you do to get the attention can be called “grasp” and he is doing so while grabbing someone’s hand. Very smart, Seungri, very smart.
(Sorry, I love to ramble about these things because I think Seungri puts so much effort into the details!)


- SR: Preparing for Karakuri TV is harder than holding concerts in the domes with BIGBANG.


- This time, Seungri is back with a “Japan is so nice ehhh~” documentary, which means Seungri is gonna report about all the amazing things in Japan.


- Turns out that he already started this project with fail… When they went to film this report a month ago, they arrived in the night time and had to drive home again without having done anything. Sad panda admits defeat.


- However, one month later they managed to reach Wakayama Prefecture in time. This is not only the home land of Sanma-san, no! Even his DNA is swirling around in the air in this holy place… (Thank you for that one, Seungri. XD)


- While striving through the city, Seungri runs into a group of men fishing for Shirouo, a tiny fish that is swimming up the river only in spring and can be fished with a special kind of fishing net.


- Seungri immediately offers to pull the fishing net up, however the guy is not really pleased with Seungri’s performance and continues yelling at him to hurry the f* up. XD While the fish are long gone already, Seungri still keeps complaining about the difficulty of his task.
(Well, boy, if I remember right it was you who wanted to do that… XD)


- Fisherman: These are my gloves!
SR: You are too stingy, dad!
Since you keep shouting at me from behind like a maniac,I can’t even do the things I usually CAN do!
Fisherman: Got you, then instead of moving your mouth, just move your hands! >D


- Finally, Seungri actually manages to catch some fish and is therefore treated to a round of living mini fish with some sauce on it. A delicacy that usually costs about 50 USD, by the way.


- Seungri looks extremely found of this treat (?) and shamelessly lies that it would taste great.


- Next stop is a Takoyaki restaurant run by a kind old lady with the Kansai blood running through her veins. Seungri doesn’t yet know what that means. The store is located in a traditional area with houses from more than 100 years ago.


- SR: May I eat some Takoyaki then?
Old lady: You are such a proper man!
Look at how happy RI is grinning about that comment ; ]


- Seungri gets to eat some takoyaki which apparenlty taste heavenly good.


- Short intermission inside the studio. Seungri is getting his marks from Sanma-san for the scenes up till now.
Sanma-san: I think you would have gotten even more points if you would have put your hand on your stomach while saying “Yes, it tastes great!!” after eating these fish. Saying “Oh so delicious!” while nearly throwing up…
SR: You are a genius!!!!!


- Before they continue airing the footage, they add a little question time here: “At some point, Seungri says he wants to go back to Korea. What do you think is the reason?”
Female guest: Since Seungri is always happy-go-lucky and tends to make funny comments, maybe he says something like “Your figure looks a little like a Takoyaki too, right?” to the old lady, so he gets Takoyaki thrown at himself. “WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU SAYING????”
Male guest: He really is not able to eat any more… Because it’s too spicy or too hot… Or… his stomach is full already…?
Well, let’s see what’s the correct answer?


- Back inside the restaurant. She old lady starts feeding Seungri to death, bringing him more and more food to eat, claiming that “He can’t bear to see a young man starve!” and “Young people need to eat properly to grow tall!” XD


- Staff: Will you be alright? You know, you don’t need to eat all of that…
SR: Well, but it’s considered rude in Japan if I don’t eat it, right?Aww …. T____T


- So, poor Seungri keeps eating a full box of Takoyaki (doesn’t look like much, but if you ever tried this, you know that this is already more than enough to make you stuffed like a pig.), 3 bananas and a bunch of fried vegetables and sausages.


- Once he finally managed to finish everything up, the old lady is kind enough to bring him another ridiculous huge bowl of rice, even asking if he would need some topping. Seungri finally gives up though and nicely tells her to take it away because he can’t eat anymore. But since the old lady is a true Kansai lady, she still packs the rice for him as take away and adds some fruits on top.


- Old lady: Please remember me!
SR: I am sure I will remember this… Just look at Seungri’s smile in that scene… >D


- Finally, Seungri makes a visit to a soy sauce factory, since Wakayama Prefecture is famous for it’s soy sauce in all of Japan. While usually it takes 3 months for a regular soy sauce to be made, in Wakayama Prefecture they insist on a period of 2 years in order to create the perfect soy sauce. Thus, most first-class restaurants and cooks use this soy sauce for their cooking.


- SR: Uwah, such a nice smell~!


- In order to produce a nice soy sauce, that mass inside the large bowls has to be stirred with a large stick. The old lady immediately challenges Seungri to try his luck. Apparently, it’s so hard that a beginner cannot even last 3 minutes.


- SR: I am definitely not gonna loose!


- Unexpectedly, Seungri lasts for nearly 10 minutes, not giving up even after getting some of the mixture on his face. Eventually the old lady stops him though because she doesn’t want him to die from exhaustion. - Since he did work so hard, the lady offers Seungri to taste some of the delicious soy sauce produced there and for comparison, they also bring a piece of tofu with “regular” soy sauce… We all know this has to go wrong, right???


- So, the lady kindly explains which one is the soy sauce from regular stores (green plate) and which one is the one they produced themselves (orange plate). Seungri has a taste of the regular one first…SR: Well, it’s regular I guess? A taste you can find everywhere…And praises the soy sauce produced in the factory for it’s “extraordinary flavor”…


- However… Just then, one of the staffs / company workers informs them that they made a mistake with the plates and actually, the plates are supposed to be the other way around (so, the orange one would have been the regular one…) … Poor Seungri is getting super flustered…
Lady: This one is the one we produce here.
SR: What…?
Lady: What should we do? I am so sorry! Since they brought so tray so sudden… This is the one that was made here.
SR: What’s going on…?
*flustered laughter*
SR: The one that took 2 years to make…
Lady: It’s this one.
*points at the green plate*
SR: That’s why… I can’t comprehend what you are saying right now, ma’am.
SR: Isn’t it my job to promote the specialty of this store?
SR: The one with the extraordinary taste was this one, right? Extraordinary taste.The special taste was here. Here.
SR: I am really sorry I told a lie. What my heart felt was that the soy sauce that took 2 years to make was really delicious. That’s what my heart did feel. But my tongue told a lie. Please kill me.


- Roar of laughter, but the studio audience feels very sorry for Seungri. Even Sanma-san feels sorry for this television dilemma.
SR: I thought that explaining and promoting this factory would be my job, so…
Sanma-san: That’s right! It’s not your fault!
Male guest: So the first bite you took was better, after all?
SR: It was delicious. The special taste.
Sanma-san: VI, so you ate both, and even though you had to say that the other one tastes great, you felt that the other one was better?
SR: That’s what I thought! In my heart! But my tongue told a lie…. PLEASE KILL ME!
